Basic Life Support

HeartCode BLS is offered year-round as an alternative to traditional, classroom-based training for busy healthcare professionals. This is an interactive, self-directed, comprehensive e-learning program from the American Heart Association. Course completion consists of two separate elements: Part 1, cognitive skills portion and Part 2, skills assessment which will be completed in the Clinical Simulation Center.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

HeartCode ACLS Anywhere is a CD-based product that uses computer simulations to present realistic patient scenarios. This course is offered year-round with skills check-off occurring in the Clinical Simulation Center. Learners are presented with 10 ACLS core cases in hospital-based scenarios. Learners will assess each scenario and formulate a treatment plan following the ACLS approved guidelines.

Basic Disaster Life Support (BDLS): (Offered in conjunction with University of Missouri EMS)

Basic Disaster Life Support is a product of an academic consortium and promoted by the American Medical Association. BDLS is an 8 hour didactic program designed to teach the core concepts of disaster management including:
D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R Paradigm – A standardized method to recognize and manage the scene and care for victims; Natural Disasters; Traumatic and Explosive Events; Nuclear and Radiologic Events; Biological Events; Chemical Events; Psychological Aspects; and Public Health Implications of Disasters.

Advanced Disaster Life Support (ADLS): (Offered in conjunction with University of Missouri EMS) – Prerequisite - BDLS

ADLS is a 2-day didactic/hands-on practical application of the concepts learned in BDLS. Small group interactive sessions allow students to work through a series of difficult questions of disaster management in a table top format. The student participates in a variety of skill stations reinforcing the concepts learned in BDLS. The didactic component of ADLS consists of Mass Fatality Management, Legal Issues, Federal, State and Local Resource use. ADLS practical stations include bullet stations, M-A-S-S Triage, Disaster Skills, PPE and Decontamination and Patient Care scenarios. High-fidelity mannequin simulators are used to practice the treatment of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) casualties.
